Lack of spring demand drops lumber prices further: Madison’s

The prevailing sentiment in solid wood commodity trading was uncertain to negative this week. Sales of panels remained conspicuously sloppy compared to dimension and studs.

In the week ending June 14, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$384 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $384. That week’s price is up $1 one month ago when it was $383 mfbm. Compared to the same week last year when it was $390 mfbm, that week’s price is down $6, or two per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $660, that week’s price is down $276, or 42 per cent.

In the week ending June 14, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $360 mfbm. This is down $10, or three per cent, from the previous week when it was $370 mfbm.

That week’s price is up $8, or two per cent from one month ago when it was $352 mfbm.
Compared to the same week last year when it was $410 mfbm, that week’s price is down $50, or 12 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $685, that week’s price is down by $325, or 47 per cent.
