Kalesnikoff Mass Timber has announced the receipt of a grant of up to $6.7 million from B.C.’s Manufacturing Jobs Fund. The funding was announced by Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, at Kalesnikoff’s existing facility in South Slocan.

Chief operating officer Chris Kalesnikoff expressed gratitude for the grant, emphasizing its support for sustainable construction projects.

“We are proud to achieve significant economic and social benefit from our existing and limited local timber supply. Mass timber construction is one small but important solution to the bigger forestry issue of ongoing uncertainty around allowable fibre and we look forward to ongoing discussions with Government to increase certainty and supply,” he stated.

In addition to the grant, Kalesnikoff confirmed a lease-to-purchase agreement with the City of Castlegar for the new mass timber facility. The 7.5-hectare site will be located at 195 Highway 3A, near the West Kootenay Regional Airport. The facility, set to open later this year, will use Kalesnikoff’s mass timber technology and add over 100 jobs to the local economy.

Kalesnikoff’s chief financial officer Krystle Seed praised the city’s support and collaboration in securing the location. The new facility will complement Kalesnikoff’s existing operations, bolstering the region’s economic and social benefits, she said.
