B.C.’s Minister of Forests Bruce Ralston has expressed disappointment over Canfor’s recent decisions to close Polar Sawmill, curtail a pulp line at Northwood Pulp, and suspend reinvestment in its Houston mill.

Ralston emphasized the impact on families and communities in northern British Columbia and pledged support for affected workers and their communities. He highlighted the government’s focus on stabilizing the sector through initiatives like the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund and support from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC. Ralston reaffirmed the importance of the forest sector to the province and committed to ongoing efforts to ensure it supports workers and communities.
