Aspen Planers (AP) has temporarily ceased operations as of April 25, citing severe market challenges.
According to the Merritt Herald, Bruce Rose, executive vice president of AP Group, described the situation as a crisis for B.C.’s forestry industry, marked by high costs and lack of government support.
Aspen Planers had already reduced operations to a single shift daily for much of 2023 and 2024. The closure affects around 100 employees, with significant ripple effects on indirect jobs.
